Q: How much do you charge? How much would it cost to have you prepare my business tax return?
A: It depends – on how well you keep records, on the complexity of your return, on how many correcting entries we may have to make. You'll get a much more accurate estimate when we discuss your business and learn more about the specifics of your situation.
Q: Will you help me with QuickBooks?
A: Of course, we're here for you at whatever level of help you need, whether you just have an occasional QuickBooks question, or when you have more in-depth issues. As our client, you gain the benefit of our many years of accumulated knowledge and expertise.
Q: How long should I keep records for tax purposes? What should I keep? How long do you keep a copy of my records?
A: We suggest that you keep copies of your corporate and personal tax returns forever, and that you keep your supporting documentation for at least seven years. Supporting documents are items like bank statements, canceled checks, receipts, business invoices, auto logs, and other corroborating evidence. Also, because you must be able to prove your cost basis when you sell certain assets like your home, stocks, etc., you need to keep those cost basis records for as long as you own the asset, plus seven years after you report the sale on your tax return. We keep your records virtually indefinitely (for as long as you remain a client) since we scan and store everything digitally/electronically. (Any paper copies which are disposed of are shredded using a completely safe and secure system.) If you ever need to retrieve a record, simply contact us and we'll quickly send a copy to you.
Q: Have you worked with clients in my field or industry?
A: In over 30 years in business, we've worked with hundreds of business clients from dozens and dozens of different fields and industries. So it's likely that, yes, we've worked with a business like yours. What's more important is that we know what's important for small businesses when it comes to your accounting, regardless of your field or industry.
Q: I don't know where to start. Can you help me?
A: Probably. If you're a small business owner or manager, if you're starting a business or working in an ongoing business, and if you maintain or keep any sort of records, it's likely we can help you. It starts with an informational interview. The more we can learn about your business, your processes, your accounting and financial practices, the more we can work with you without disrupting or changing the way you do business.
Q: I'm starting a new business from scratch. Can you help me?
A: Yes! It's always best to consult with a CPA or an accountant when starting a new business. From determining your business form to setting up a chart of accounts to developing projections for your business plan, we can help. Just set up an initial meeting where we can learn more about your plans and objectives so we can get you started on solid financial footing.
Q: What are your hours and how do I find you?
A: Our hours are Monday through Friday, 8:30am – 5:00pm. You'll find a map and directions here. Please be sure to call us for an appointment before you visit. We look forward to meeting you and helping you with your small business accounting needs.
